This week we witnessed a historic moment: A House subcommittee held a hearing on reparations for American descendants of slavery—the first congressional hearing on reparations in over a decade. It took place significantly on Juneteenth, the day commemorating the end of Civil War-era slavery. Although the topic of reparations has always been controversial, I believe we've passed the point of debate. We've entered a new discussion: how and when.
