November Digest: VOICES for PUBLIC TRANSIT

Happy Thanksgiving from Voices for Public Transit

First, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined our movement to win better public transportation for America. In the months ahead, our community will be working hard to motivate our new Congress to make a long-term commitment to public transportation. If we succeed, we'll have even more to be thankful for!

As part of our Thanksgiving celebration, we just published a new blog, "Top 10 Reasons We're Thankful for Public Transportation." We encourage you to read it and share why you're thankful for public transportation on the Voices for Public Transit website or by commenting on the Public Transportation Facebook page.

Highlights from the Voices for Public Transit Blog

Voters Overwhelmingly Support Public Transportation in the 2014 Election— Across the nation, more than two-thirds of public transportation ballot measures were approved by voters. Read more >>

#InvestNow: The Economic Benefits of Investing in Public Transportation—Public transportation spurs economic growth, creates jobs, and helps household budgets.

The Nation Magazine
Dear Friend of the Nation,
eBook Gore Vidal
Gore Vidal's State of the Union: Nation Essays, 1958–2005 is available in paperback and digital format for tablets, smartphones and computers.

Gore Vidal was the pre-eminent essayist of his generation, and he wrote for The Nation over a span of forty-seven years, becoming a contributing editor in 1981. That same year, The Nation published his explosive first essay for editor Victor Navasky, "Some Jews and the Gays," which is included here. This collection also exemplifies the best of his critical vision with other great essays like "Requiem for the American Empire," "Monotheism and Its Discontents," "Notes on Our Patriarchal State" and "The Birds and the Bees"—and its Monica Lewinsky–era sequel, "The Birds and the Bees and Clinton."

Editor Richard Lingeman's advice: "Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged. Prepare also to smile or laugh out loud."

Best of all, by purchasing e-books through eBookNation, you'll help to sustain The Nation's journalism while supporting our writers and progressive ideals.
