America, meet "Carlos Danger." That's the improbable alias used by New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner when he began an online flirtation with a 22-year-old "progressive activist," complete with his trademark genital photographs. He did this after he was forced to resign from Congress for similar activity. Weiner is 48 years old, and the married father of a young child.
His wife is Huma Abedin, aide and close friend to Hillary Clinton, who once upon a time made a dramatic public stand beside her philandering husband. Obliging media outlets gave Bill and Hill soft-focus tinkly-piano coverage and declared Bill Clinton a changed man. To its great cost, America would learn six years later that he had not changed much. He and Hillary became legendary liars, towering figures in the history of American prevarication, giving us such memorable "principles" as "It all depends on the meaning of the word 'is'" and "What difference, at this point, does it make?"
Abedin professed similar loyalty and understanding for her wayward husband at a press conference on Tuesday. But she and Weiner already got their "rehabilitation" media puff pieces. Weiner's new online flirtation began within days of the last one. It grew to involve more than just saucy text messages and dirty photos - he told his young sexting partner that he'd arrange an apartment for her in Chicago, and a job blogging for the Politico website.
Weiner is reckless, perhaps even deranged. His wife comes off as icy and power-hungry for supporting him, not sympathetic and "brave," as media cheerleaders quickly rushed to proclaim her. Even as New York outlets, including the New York Times, call on Weiner to end his mayoral bid, it looks like the media wants to salvage a political future for Huma Abedin from the wreckage.

Over the past few years, the number of conservatives in the House has grown exponentially. Well, at least to the extent that you can't count them on your fingers. Unfortunately, House conservatives are about to become a victim of their own successes if they fail to change course. | READ MORE »
