The tight-knit Queens enclave of Breezy Point was a scene of horrific devastation Tuesday -- row after row of homes engulfed by by an inferno that raged on streets flooded by superstorm Sandy.
At least 48 people are dead and more than 8.2 million households were without power in 17 states as far west as Michigan. Almost 2 million of those were in New York City, and large portions of Manhattan lost power.
The Daily News has just learned that years of scientific research -- and thousands of mice -- at New York University Hospital's Smilow building on E. 32nd St. have been lost.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA Chairman said the authority would try and restore parts of the subway system but called i a was a daunting task.
