But a recent outrageous report by NPR and ProPublica has shown the Freddie is secretly betting against those homeowners, to the tune of billions.

The SEC is charged with regulating wall street, which is a job they largely do not do.

In fact, since many people who work for the SEC are former employees of large criminal banks on Wall Street, they actively help to cover up the crimes of wall street. More details on that in this article by Matt Taibbi.

On March 30th, there is going to be a massive gathering of occupations from all across the USA in DC, just like on #j17, but hopefully, since it will be warmer, we will have hundreds of thousands of people decending on DC.

I think it would be a good idea for us to swing by the SEC and let them know how dissatisfied we are with how they've allowed Wall Street to fuck up the world's economy.

Or maybe not even just on the 30th. Maybe we should be going down there for days on end, week after week. Ending corporate personhood is nice, and a significant first step, but we also need to shine the light on the fact that the institutions that have been charged with policing the markets for fraud and abuse have been complicit in allowing fraud and abuse to happen. We need to shine the light on their corruption, and reveal them for what they are to the public at large-- who may not even know what the SEC is, or what it's supposed to do.

Colors of the season

In the midst of a New England winter, most people crave the sweet smell and vivid color of flowers in bloom. Unfortunately for those braving the winter months, typically the wait is a long and chilly one until finally spring arrives. Fortunately for those residing in the Worcester area, a taste of spring can be found at the Worcester Art Museum and Tower Hill Botanic Garden at the annual Flora in Winter exhibit.

What can one expect to achieve when four classically trained professional vocalists join forces with a locally renowned music director? A concert of course! And that is exactly what Clark University's distinguished artist, Sima Kustanovich, has promised. Aptly dubbed the Alumni Gala Concert, the Jan. 27 performance will feature four of Clark University's successful music-program alumni: Darlene Ann Dobisch, Zhanna Alkhazova, Thaddeus Bell and Tara Goodhue Alcorn.

The Joy of Music Program, a community music school in Worcester, was founded by piano teacher Wendy Ardizzone with a couple flyers posted in Worcester and 12 preschoolers enrolled in a few music and movement classes taught in space she rented at the First Unitarian Church. That was in 1987. Today, Joy of Music serves hundreds of students in the area, from preschoolers to senior citizens, and offers a variety of voice, instrumental and movement classes, private lessons, and musical ensembles including its own youth orchestra.

They spent millions to turn the Internet we know and love into a place where they make all the rules, all the choices, and all the money. And since it's an election year, they thought their big political contributions would buy them whatever legislation they wanted. Let's face it, that works a lot of the time.

Former Senator Chris Dodd, who now is the movie industry's chief lobbyist, went so far as to make this shocking statement after the Internet censorship vote in the Senate was postponed:¹

Those who count on quote "Hollywood" for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake.

Big Hollywood media companies literally just tried to buy off politicians to get what they wanted. And if millions of people hadn't responded online in historic fashion last week, it might have worked.² In other words, people power beat corporate power.

With the election only ten months away, the time to act is now. In order to get big money out of politics, we have to mobilize in an even bigger way than we did to protest Internet censorship—because we'll be taking on the corrupting influence of not only of Hollywood but also big oil, Wall Street banks, the insurance industry, and all other huge corporations. If we can raise $180,000 right away, we're ready to launch a new campaign online, on the ground, and over the airwaves, to get out ahead of all the deceptive spin, angry rhetoric, and big money that the corporations and the 1% will pour in to defend themselves. Corporate money in politics corrupts the system and the people in it, but we can eliminate its influence. We're fighting for a constitutional amendment that says that corporations are not people and money is not speech. 2. Thousands Rally in Tahrir Square

Thousands of Egyptians returned to Tahrir Square to mark the first anniversary of the uprising that overthrew President Hosni Mubarak. Islamists turned out to celebrate their recent electoral victory, while liberals came out to call for further reforms. In a concession to demonstrators, the interim military government partially lifted the decades-old emergency law and freed hundreds of people who had been sentenced to prison by military courts. However, Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi was vague about the lifting of the emergency law, saying it would still be applied in cases of "thuggery," a term the military has applied to protesters demanding civilian rule.

3. Fed: Interest Rates Will Stay Low

The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that it will keep interest rates low for over a year, extending a period of record-low rates to give additional lift to the struggling economy. The announcement previews the Fed's more detailed forecast of economic trends, including interest rates, to be released later. The Fed said that the economy is growing at a moderate pace despite some signs of global turmoil. It has now kept interest rates at a record low for three years.

Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords officially resigned from the House of Representatives Wednesday as her colleagues marked her departure with emotional speeches and well wishes. Giffords, who was injured in a shooting in Tucson in January 2011 that killed six people, is leaving her seat to focus on her recovery. The House minority leader, fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi, called Gifford the "brightest star" in Congress who had "brought the word 'dignity' to new heights by her courage." Majority Leader Eric Cantor added, "Though Gabby may be leaving Washington today, I know this won't be the last we see of her and Mark." As a final tribute, the House unanimously passed a bill championed by Giffords that deals with smuggling on the Mexican border.

The International Miss Ana Sol

Freedom found through art. That's how Miss Ana Sol, born Ana Perez in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, discovered her love of art. The youngest of eight children, Perez was adopted by her maternal grandmother, and at the age of 10 found herself in the downtown Piedmont Street area of Worcester. Quickly learning that the streets where no place to roam free, Perez learned a new sense of freedom through her evolving artistic expression. That evolution has led her to The International Lounge on Pleasant Street, in a one-woman, one-night-only exhibit on the evening of January 21.

So much potential squandered on the youth

This is the story of a kid who goes on a quest to find something that he thinks is important and fascinating but that we as an audience know from the beginning will ultimately prove meaningless. The film sent me off on a journey of discovery and futility of my own: an attempt to learn why something so potentially whimsical and engaging involving proven craftsman in their fields should turn out to be so extremely painful to watch.
